"stabident"

I went in for a small filling on what was other wise a healthy tooth. My dentist wanted to try stabident. I found it very uncomfortable so say the least. The pain in the tooth and jaw still remained. About a week to ten days after the stabident / filling the whole side of my face had swollen up. I went back to the denist and he said now I needed a root canal. I asked how this could happen on such a healthy tooth and he explained tooth trama due to the filling. I believe it was the stabident. Is there an increased risk of infection with this proceedure. The end result is pain / numness still in my jaw and tooth and the root canal on what I though was a health tooth

In 9 days, I have a dental appointment to get two cavities filled on my uninjured side. I had little trouble getting a cavity filled on the numb side without injection a few weeks ago.

I discussed my fear of furthur nerve injury with my dentist who suggested anesthesizing just the tooth itself. What risks are there in having this done? I thought it sounded like a reasonable alternative but if pain, numbness and/or tooth trauma can occur with this procedure, I might decide to have no anesthestic at all.

Does anyone have any recent info on Stabident?

I'd recommend no anesthetic at all. That's what I do now if I need any dental work done... yes it's difficult but nothing is worth a lifetime of nerve damage as you well know. In my last root canal I had the tooth drilled out down to the roots without anesthetic with no problem. When it was time to clean out the roots he tried without anything but I found it just too painful so he injected the roots with carbocaine... worked like a charm and I had no danger of nerve damage as the anesthetic never got outside of the root.

How did you get numb if the anesthetic never got out of the tooth? It's the nerve that needs numbed, isn't it???

   pim,

The anesthetic was injected directly into the nerve root of the tooth, within the root canal itself.
