"I'm new all because of the dentist."

I am suffering from a lingual nerve injury. 7 days ago I went to the dentist to have a cracked tooth fixed and came out with a very numb/tingling/pin pricked tongue and inside of the lower jaw. When the dentist was putting the needle in I felt a jolt of pain, he obviously had hit the nerve. The freezing was wearing off that night but my tongue was still numb and tingling, I thought I'd go to bed and wake up the next morning and be all back to normal-WRONG. My tongue felt terrible, I called the dentist, spoke with the hygenist who said they have seen this before and to give it a couple of days to a week. A couple days pass and I'm starting to freak out. The internet is a good source of info. but it can also be very scary and frightening. Have since spoken to the dentist who said to give it a few more weeks and I should be better, he says this happens about 1 out of every 500 freezings. I'm staying positive that it will get better but in the meantime it is very annoying and frustrating. The sensations get worse as the day goes on or if I talk a lot. One funny thing is, I was certain that the tooth he was working on wasn't the one casuing me the trouble but he insisted it was, I sure hope to hell it is as I can't see myself ever going to the dentist again.
After reading alot of posts, I think my dentist is only trying to passify me as this clearly is not going to pass that easily or will it?. Will this get better? I don't take any medications and hate to have to start now, but if someone can tell me the magic cocktail to help this along, I'm willing to listen. If anyone has a success story I would love some encouragement.

Generally, most people that come to these boards and who stay on them are the ones with negative outcomes. Do not base your improvement possibility just by what you read here. For alot of people do get better over time. If you have pain, go to your primary doctor or a neurologist. Some of my meds even help with numbness.

Easy to say...but try to give it time w/o focusing on it.

Do you know what drug he used for the injection?

Thank you for your comment. I really appreciated it. I know I need to stay off the internet because it is just scaring me, and you are right the comments are mostly negative. I need to stay positive, easier said then done sometimes, but I'm trying.
The dentist is now on holidays until mid January so I can't find out what drug he used until then, and hopefully by then I will be better. Does the type of drug matter, for better or worse?
The symptoms seem to vary day to day and through out the day. Today the tongue/inside lower jaw is very numb and the tip is tingling at times. It's a weird feeling. One thing I hate doing is brushing my teeth, the toothbrush feels aweful and toothpaste makes my tongue hurt. However, I need to still brush or my teeth might get cavities and I really can't see myself ever having another freezing again.
Are you doing okay, I hope you are.

Your dentist should have had you come back asap and put you on a steroid at least... If i were you id find an OS for a second opinion asap.. I wouldnt want to go back to anyone that sees this every 500 people and then has the nerve to ignore you .. That is not proper standard of care ... I have lingual nerve damage too and i was put on a steroid 3 days after it happened.. What procedure did you have done for a broken tooth ?
