"What should I do??"

I went in to have a filling re-done two days on my bottom right first premolar. When she injected me to numb me up, the pain was extreme, and oddly, I felt a burning sensation in a part of my lower lip. I have had many fillings done before, and have never felt anything like that. Now, when I speak and open my mouth, I have a tingly sensation in part of my chin and lower lip (exactly where the burning sensation occured upon injection). I definitely suspect this is some type of nerve injury.

My question is, what should be my next step? Should I contact this dentist and let her know that something is wrong? Should I wait it out, and see if it goes away, or should I seek dental advice from an outside dentist? I have had a few other complaints with this dentist, and do not plan to see her again as my primary dentist. Considering this, should I bother contacting her about this problem anyway?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading!

you definately need to contact the dentist asap and tell them how you are feeling. explain in detail.

I remember feeling the same way - my lower lip & chin on the right side was burning, tingling - it hurt to talk a lot and any extreme weather - wind, rain and cold would make it worse.

get treatment immediately, the quicker you act the better chances of healing. Try ACUPUNCTURE - do it I highly recommend it, it will help the healing and since your injury is new they might be able to nurse it back and heal it.

I have had an IAN damage/injury since Jan 2009 due to wisdom tooth removal top/bottom right jaw. My current treatment is nuerontin (300mgx4 times a day) and weekly acupuncture.

If the dentist cant help you get a referral to an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon. They specialize in these things and will know ALOT more about it than a general dentist.

Agreed, I'm with the other guy - I should have not said dentist, if you had to go under general anestesia and use an oral surgeon, i just assume you were calling him a dentist.

Go see another Maxi/Dental Surgeon for their opinion. Then see a Neurologist to help you ease the pain. I saw at least 3 different Oral Surgeons to confirm my injury. Unfortunately they told me it does happen, and it happened to me.

I hate to sound repetative and Im not promoting anything, but acupuncture dr's tell me that I should have come to them earlier to help the nerve repair.

I am already 2 years into this...and I could have done more than wait and do nothing for the first 6 mths (as I assumed it would heal and go away..)So DO SOMETHING now.
