"Wisdom root wrapped around nerve"

In my x-ray it showed that one of my wisdom tooth roots is wrapped around my nerve. The oral surgeon even seemed mad at me for waiting to get them pulled. I'm reading all these stories about nerves getting damaged and want to prevent that if possible. The tooth is impacted and the dentist said it needs to be pulled. Is there anything else I can do about that one tooth in order to prevent that problem, or do I have to just take my chances with them pulling the tooth? Any answers would help me out a lot. I'm supposed to get them pulled soon and dont want to regret preventing nerve damage if it happens. Thanx

Colin

   Hi Colin,
I don't know what to tell you about that one tooth, but you are right to be concerned about it and possible nerve damage. Have you thought about getting a second opinion? There are a few dentists that post on this site and hope one of them sees this and posts if there are any other options for you.

   Colin,

Why do you want them out? If you don't need it out don't get it out. Why take the chance. If you do need it out then talk about all your options. There are a few options you could do to make sure everything goes well for you.

Also, I agree about getting another opinion before proceeding.

Hi, You dont seem to need to have it removed from what you write. Impacted teeth do not need removing if their are no symptoms. In fact here in the UK our NICE guidelines say impacted teeth should be left in if possible as there is too much risk of nerve damage.
Your dentist is just being dramatic to confuse you into having them out in my opinion. Do not get it done without a very independent second, and then I'd say at least third opinion too, not just cos a dentist wants to keep himself in salary!!
Please post again before you commit to having it done, I dont want you to be in the regretful position I am in, where I was talked into having my lower wisdoms out for no good reason. Can give you details if you want.

If you have to get a second opinion so be it but dentists dont remove teeth strictly for a monetary basis.

Although I would agree that not all teeth need to be removed.
