"Extraction Procedure......under GA"

I received copies of my hospital records today. notwithstanding what has happened I wondered whether someone could advise if it is not uncommon that whilst under GA 4 teeth could be pulled in 35 minutes, especially when two lower were severly impacted.

Induced, cut, bone work, removal, stitching.....

I remember the procedure commencing at 8.10am and the operating form states completion at 8.45am.

Any comments would be appreciated.

It is not unusual, these guys try to pack in as many as possible, many more dollars per hour.

it has nothing to do with dollars per hour.

The fact is it only takes about 30 minutes start to finish.

I can do all 4 in about 25 minutes barring any unforseen complications.

Well I believe you because you get a salary (I think) and don't get paid per. However, I have heard others totally brag about how many they can do in a short time and how much they make on them.

A very scarey example of just that. How I would have given $626 to EACH of the 3 dentists to have been sent me elsewhere.

THANKS!
Dear Alvin,
I received my dues statement on 11-14-05. As I was kicking it around, I started to think what A.E.S./Sargenti/RC2B meant to me. I took my schedule for the day and counted the number of root canals I had performed over the years for the patients scheduled just that day. Some of them go back to 1974. Ten single root, 8 double root and 16 triple (or more) root with no failures. The oldest is 31 years ago. In today’s dollars, that’s $16,910. Total time expenditure was about 27 hours. That breaks out to $626/hour. Here’s my check for dues plus one molar endo. AES is one of the three best things to happen to
me professionally. The other two are Gordon Christensen and Peter Dawson.
Thanks,
Jack Rhicard DMD

DrCsk, it sounds like a bit of a race. the 25 minutes you speak of is that no different for teeth which are in non-standard positions or can't be classed as routine...I'm just interested thats all?

well my procedure cost $900 for the OS, $300 for the anaethesist and $250 for the hospital.

Add the same on subsequent visits to other surgeons as a result of my nerve damage. scans, CTs, visits to my GP for regular carbemazipine blood level checks.

multiply that by 50 for pain and suffering, loss of income and loss of future income.

I am the least litigious individual you would meet, but I run a business where I am expected to generate in excess of $20Mil volume this year. What chance of that happening when as soon as i open my mouth amd start talking i am in agony, this 4 months after my procedure.

I've got support medically when i decide to proceed.

25 minutes usually involves flap, osseous reduction of mandibular bone, and sectioning of teeth horizontal or vertical doesnt matter.

If all 4 teeth are erupted with conical roots you could do all 4 teeth in less than 10 minutes.

I dont get paid per tooth I get a salary as a govt employee.

I would say that your bill is actually cheap. The OS's in my area charge about $3000 for 4 teeth under sedation.

steve, just think of the expense if you end up in repair surgery on drugs for 5 years seeing 4 doctors a month..and at 6 1/2 years you still have numbness,burning,ect...i could be driving a hummer for the amount of money i put out on this madness..i was in the DENTAL chair for 2 HOURS for 1 fiiling and 2 extractions and i only went in for 1 extraction and a filling on the left side...my nerve damage is on the right...hopefully you will recover soon and not endure years of this madness...good luck if you sue the bastard that did this to you..

   B,

They extraction on the right wasn't even required and this is what caused your damage? Same scenario.....my left wizzie was giving me issues and the right was taken out at the same time.

Do most people have RHS nerve damage?

Notwithstanding time, the operating prick read the referring notes from the dentist, didn't look at the OPG, or explain the position and/or potential complexity of the procedure. He used the word 'routine' passed me the waiver and made me sign. Hardly informed consent.....

For 5 weeks post operation, i was in chronic pain 24/7 I went repeatedly back to see him and he steadfastly refused to acknowledge or suggest that something might be wrong - no scans, further xrays etc.....and his attitude stank.

It wasn't until the intervention of my second opinion OS, my GP and the Professor who is now treating me that my nerve damage was uncovered. The Prof writes the medico-legal opinions in the state and has stated that he will support me.

Every other OMFS I have met subsequent to the operation has been sensationally supportive and helpful. I unfortunately copped a ##### one.
