"BMS"

Writing these posts. Sometimes I feel like I'm sending messages out into space hoping for some response, or something or someone to
send me all the right info.

Sorry if I sound like a downer, but I can't stand my "sick
tongue" anymore.

I'm not asking for miracles. I guess I'm just talking to myself.
I know someone would help me if they had the answer.

Did I tell you what I do for a living? Believe or not, I am
a carpenter by trade and a Home Improvement Contractor,
with this monkey on my back...or maybe more like a gorilla.

Not bragging here. My business is suffering because
of this.

Sorry guys, I say, keep the chin up!
we'll talk soon.

Relicman

Good night to all

Thank you for the reply. don't want to sound like a broken record. But this is a very strange disorder. The way it intensifies
throughout the day. Some relief in the morning only to repeat
the same.

Again, it is hard to buy the stress theory, because I could be
resting all day. Still follows the same pattern.

Does anyone have some opinion or information on why this syndrome behaves the way it does?

Thank you,

Relicman

Hi Relicman: We have 2 things in common!! 1 being BMS & the 2nd my husband is a carpenter.
I have no idea whay some people are afflicted by this Syndrome. The 1 thing alot of us seem to have in common is that we are achievers, highly sensitive & caring!! The only good thing that BMS has done for me is made me appreciate the good days I have & when I have a bad day try to deal with it & you know how????????
I have kept my sense of humor & I always manage to have a laugh no matter how bad I feel. This syndrome can not & will not rob me of that as well. Try to find a positive thing in your life & try to put BMS in the background. The more you think about how bad BMS is making you feel the worse it gets, vicious circle.
Watch funny movies, walk ,chat on messengers, you then will not have to be alone when you have a bad day. I have a few good friends on messenger with BMS & when 1 of us is really down it is good to know there is someone there to listen & just be there.
I chat to my BMS buddy Marie 2(2 heads)only for her & my other good BMS buddies I think I would of gone even nuttier!!!:We chat about all things even sang when we used our mikes. You know BMS was not really the topic after awhile as we were have so much fun. Sound crazy??? Well I Am!! I have BMS & thats what the docs think Take care Annika;-)

I'm a 55 year old very healthy, post-menopausal, petite woman and my diet is very consistent (whole grains, yogurt, milk, berries, chicken, fish, very little red meat etc.) It's been over three years since I first noticed my symptoms of a burning tongue. My doctor had never heard of such a thing and dismissed my symptoms entirely with no suggestions...so I "Googled" it - of course. As with most everyone my symptoms are very minor when I wake and gets more intense as the day progresses. Does anyone find that it begins to worsen after you start eating breakfast? Has anyone suffered from or been diagnosed with GERD? Could the two be linked somehow through digestion? At the suggestion of my dentist, I'm going to ask my doctor to refer me to an oral pathologist. Also one of my symptoms is that I produce a lot more saliva. Has anyone else noticed this? I am constantly swallowing and wonder if the two are related.

Chris

Hi! John Relicman here,

Like always, I'm sorry to hear of another case. Yes, everything you have mentioned is very typical of BMS. Sooo typical,it is disturbing. When I open my eyes in the morning, I have about 45 minutes of peace before it kicks in. Brushing does not really seem to make it worse, although eating can set it in motion. but the time factor seems to play a big part.

Nerve Damage seems to run this uncanny pattern. This is what, it
is all about.

John

Like always it is good to hear from you all. I have started
Clonazepam recently. I have to say so far it has calmed the sensation
to a bearable state. As of now, the sides of my tongue are not
BURNING like rock salt.

This week has been a very bad mouth week.I tell my wife when I'm irritable...I'm having a bad mouth day. Do they really understand? most likely not. But we can't blame them if they don't experience it.

Honestly, I would not wish this syndrome on my worst enemy.

But is comforting to know that this is a reconized disorder
and maybe some day we all can be set free from this pain.

Talk soon,

Relicman

Ask your chemist to make you up a Mouth Wash of Vitamin B12.
I have found it really calms the mouth down. You hold it in your mouth for a minute then swollow it. It is 5ml of Vitman B12 Mouth Wash to 30ml water. Zostrix Mouth Gel is unavailable in my country so appaarently this mouth wash is just as good. Prescription given to my by my OS. Good Luck.

Many thanks for your input - you all give great support to everyone which I am sure is very much appreciated as this problem is a real pain in the ....... Regards

Hi Denise,

Why do a b12 mouth wash of b12? Maybe you are deficient in vitamin b12 and need it?

Hi Everyone. I have never heard of B12 in a mouthwash ..sounds good. It is not the same as Zostrix as this is an oral gel& rubbed on the inside of the mouth to let the nerves fire. So far so good I am getting results, worth finding a compound chemist . Take care Annika

Hello to all. Would like to ask. If anyone, besides the burning
and salty tongue etc. Have a sensation of grit or particles on
the tongue.

I have mentioned the many annoying (to say the least)
sensations that I have.

This sensation of particles & grit is equally painful and dis-
turbing it's own way. Constanly trying to scrap/remove this sensation
with my front teeth. I guess this is a normal reaction to sensing something abnormal on the tongue. Feels like I'm constantly swallowing bits & pieces of my tongue.

At this point, nothing surprises me.

Oh, Yes! I have that feeling of having a mouthful of crumbs, sand, or sawdust. Little bits everywhere, and my mouth and tongue are always in motion. It is really uncomfortable and very unsightly. I mean that it's impossible to control the tongue's automatic movements trying to get rid of the stuff in the mouth.

This is really the pits, Relicman. I hope you come back and find me and talk to me. So far, this forum isn't very active, and I need someone who understands. Thanks for listening! I will try to check a couple of times each day, looking for a live human! (I am smiling!)

I saw your posting on the nerve injury board about the B Complex mouth wash. Did it help you?

I do not have burning mouth syndrome but instead a chemically burned nerve. My doctor had given me a gel that was compounded to have various nerve medications (anti-depressants and anti-seizure ones that help with nerve pain). I had a couple of days of diminished pain after I started putting my gel on my lip and on the inside of my chin. I was told by my doctor not to put it inside my mouth. I was wondering if this type of mouthwash would help the burning pain to atleast lessen. Did you use it for burning or just numbness?

Thanks.

Hi johnrelicman - I have been on the Vitamin B12 Mouth Wash (5mls Vit B12 liquid to 30ml water) - held in the mouth for a minute or so, then swallow. I have done this twice a day for 2 weeks and things have improved greatly. Stopped smoking and now don't drink tea or coffee. I am sure all these changes have contributed to the improvement of the BMS. Anything is worth a try!! Best wishes

Relicman - Just try the Vitamin B12 and not the Vit B Complex as you may not be getting enough of the B12 out of the Complex. Also ask your OS to prescribe the Vit.B12 Mouth Wash. ANYTHING!! is worth a try. I am feeling heaps better and I am not sure if it is because a lump was taken for Biopsy from under my tounge or the Mouth Wash is working. Or because I STILL have not had a smoke for nearly 3 weeks now and have cut out coffee. I only have a bit of burning along the gums on one side at the back where my teeth USED to be. You really sound like you are having a horrible time and I sincerely hope something works for you real soon. Take care, Regards, Denise

Hi Relicman: I know your frustration. I've had this condition for 19 years!

If I may offer a suggestion, I am now on Lyrica 75mg, prescribed by my neurologist. It 90% takes away the burning, numbness, and that feeling that your tongue feels like sand-paper. In my case, the burning pain goes all over my mouth.

My Doctor says she sees this condition often.

I took me 3 years to accept this dreadful condition. If you could get 90% relief you'd feel alot better.
Please, see a neurolgist and get relief. There are quite a few medications used for this condition (which I've ben on), but Lyrica
helps the most.

Have you been diagnosed by a doctor. Go to an oral surgeon. He'll do some simple tests. I was given clonaspan and it helps but the condition coms and goes. Never goes away for long but the medicine help.

Just surving one day at a time helps me out. I'm so sorry that this happened to you and I wanted you to know that I sympathize with your pain. You are stronger than you know. Keep up the good work.

Thanks to all,

Honest responses are always appreciated. Again, I'm sorry for all of us. God only knows how one can be literally annoyed to death.

BMS is the Syndrome that will take one to the breaking point. Almost like hell is upon us. Wants us to live with massive disturbance. Sometimes I feel guilty for complaining about a disorder that is not Fatal?.. I should appreciate life and others who are worse off..God bless them too. Most say, It could be worse..you could have cancer. Cancer??..They seem to be making good progress these days for cancer victoms, at least many are on top of it.

It is those rare problems or unknown, many will suffer for a lifetime and never find relief. Again, I'm sorry for us. I'm always here for you all. Certainally I'm no role model for most. I'm just a man.

These days I call my BMS,.. well, this week would make more sense
since it changes all the time. How about this one.. "DRAGON SKIN TONGUE", with burning like HOT PEPPER, SANDPAPER TONGUE when it feels better...Better? when the heck does it ever feel better anyway??
I'm not able to describe what a better day really is. If I even
have one?.. It would be just be different days, better than nothing
if you know what I mean.

EAT AND SLEEP IS WHAT A TRUE BMS SUFFERER LOOKS FORWARD TO.

what a life huh?

Change is always good. At least for BMS sufferers.

Relicman, the only man in America with BMS this bad.

Hi all, I seem to have developed this condition as well. Quite maddening to go through all the potential causes, etc. and just come up empty handed. I see no way I could have a Vitamin B deficiency, I eat a very balanced diet. Thrush? Negative..no signs or other symptoms. I heard it suggested that it could be an "overly acidic" body and to do things like lay off coffee/wine and supplement with baking soda in water...has anyone else tried this? I tried for a week with no difference, not having coffee does not seem to help too much either.

Don't know if anyone has heard of this, but Lipoic acid is emerging as a promising treatment for this condition. I am just beginning to try this approach...perhaps you should also look into it. Basically it's a strong antioxident that has also been used to treat diabetic neuropathy. Give it a shot? One word of advice, go for the R+ ALA...many stores just sell the 50/50 split R+/S- lipoic acid, which is half natural, half synthetic.

Anyway, does anyone else have any small red lines or bumps in areas of their tongue with this condition? Not ulcers or anything, just red spots?

John, when I read your posts, it's like I could have written them myself. I am afraid my life is going to fall apart because of this condition. It scares me to death to think of it. Yes, eating and sleeping are the only relief.
Since you mention cancer, let me tell you I've had it and it was much preferable to the BMS. At least there was a clear diagnosis, a relatively simple operation, and I almost never think about it these days. But the BMS is horrible.
Keep hanging in there, even as I'm trying to do.

Hey John... It's been a year or so since I have even checked this site. So yes... we are still in the same boat. I'm sorry things have not improved for you. It's been two years for me and although I have had some "brief" moments of relief, the majority of my days are spent thinking of my mouth! How miserable! My tongue still burns... upper and lower jaw bone stay tense.. and my teeth ache and burn. I don't know if you remember my story.. actually, I couldn't even find my earlier posts. Like I said... it's been a long time since I have been here. However, it's been two years since my hysterectomy.. and that is when this dental nightmare began. Oh well, it's the 4th of July! I hope we will all one day have relief from this bondage we are under. Let us celebrate our freedom in this country.
