"in severe pain after successful implant, plea"

I am sorry if I have posted this incorrectly as I am new to this. Two weeks ago I had my front top tooth removed, and an implant put in. The surgery went well as the tooth, crown came out without breaking, only to find an absess on the tooth. He told me I would bein pain for a few days, but then it should subside. I was taking 6 paracetemol codeines a day the pain was so bad. When I saw him one week later, I thought the pain was going away, but couldn't really tell as it comes in waves- sometimes throbbing above the tooth, bone pain in both jaws, etc. Since one week I have been only taking ibuprofen 600mg in the morning and at night. It still hurts, but I didn't want my body to get used to taking the medication, and I wanted to see if it would get better. Well today all of a sudden the pain comes back, cut with a vengance.
He said the exrays looked fine and that I should not have pain. I know this is not psycho-sommatic, so could someone please share with me any similar experiences and what was the solution??

Thank you in advance!!

I question placing an implant into an area of infection. Was this an oral surgeon? Where are you? Are you on antibiotics?

I am in belgium and i went to a stomatologe- implant specialist. He saw the absess, as when he removed the crown, the entire tooth came out, with absess attached. Then he put the implant in. i have already taken two different antibiotics. As my doctor was out I wnt yesterday to another and he said according to the xrays, the implant looked great. The pain is not really in the implant perse, but in the gums and up under my nostril. Maybe a nerve has been hit??

Thank you for your response!

how did the abcess form? sometimes you need more then one antibiotic to clear an infection because different antibiotics attack different type of bacteria. Your implant OS should not have placed an implant prior to clearing out the infection completly. Which type of antibiotics were you given?
what type of an x-ray did the other Doctor take? The implant may look great on an x-ray, but you can still have an infection, the implant could be crushing a nerve or both. Have you been given a ct scan?

Sorry you are in pain! Was this a general dentist? Did he remove the abcess? If not, you just mihgt want to have it removed and get on some antibiotic therapy. If need be, what state are you in and perhaps I have heard of a good oral surgeon.

Xrays will not determine why the pain is there - it takes 50% bone loss (i believe) before it shows anything, ya know in the jaw. it does not seem to be a useful tool in determining what is going on. I wish you a quick recovery. Please do tell us you are on antibiotics and keep us updated.
